BURLINGTON COUNTY RETIREES’ EDUCATION ASSOCIATION
unified with the
NEW JERSEY RETIREES' EDUCATION ASSOCIATION

PURPOSE; To advance the interests and welfare of our members by serving as a unified county affiliate to the state (NJREA/NJEA) and national (NEA-R) education associations.

MEMBERSHIP:  Membership is open to anyone who retired from a New Jersey public school district and is enrolled in the TPAF, PERS, or ABP pension plans. Also welcome are retirees from other public; state schools, colleges, universities, institutions or agencies operating under the education statutes and/or laws of the state of New Jersey.

BCREA unified with the state association (NJREA) as of  September 1, 2011. As a result, BCREA members must also be members of NJREA, with two exceptions. Anyone who is 75 years of age or older (born before Sept. 1, 1936) is grandfathered and does not have to join NJREA. Also, anyone who was a lifetime member of BCREA prior to Sept. 2, 2011 is not required to be a member of NJREA. since NJREA is affiliated with NJEA and NEA-Retired, one dues payment (see the dues section below) includes membership in four associations; BCREA, NJREA, NJEA, NEA-R.

ORGANIZATION:  The governing body of the Association is the Executive Committee which consists of the officers (President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, and Treasurer) and the chairpersons of the standing committees.

MEETINGS/ACTIVITIES:  The Executive Committee meets at least five (5) times each year.  Two General Membership Meetings (luncheons) are held in October and May.  Members may attend all meetings.  Reservation forms for the luncheon meetings are published in the fall and spring issues of our newsletter, the Burlington Beacon.

DUES: All dues payments are processed by NJEA.  Annual dues for the unified BCREA/NJREA/NJEA/NEA-R are $82 (professional) and $59 (ESP).  Annual members will receive a renewal notice from NJEA each May.

Lifetime dues are available for both NJREA and BCREA.  To inquire about lifetime dues for NJREA, contact their Membership Unit at 609-599-4594, ext. 4123.  Lifetime membership in BCREA is only available to persons who are already lifetime members of NJREA.   For more information on BCREA lifetime membership contact Phyllis (her contact information is below).

NEWSLETTER:  The Burlington Beacon is published three times each year.  The Editors encourage members to contribute articles or information of interest to the membership.
